While the communities of Manitowoc and Ludington Michigan have been voicing excitement that the S.S. Badger is returning for another season, the crew is also ready to get back to sailing.
Last season was cut short when a piece of the ramping in Luddington broke off, but two new counterweight structures have been built and installed, making the dock ready to go.
Sara Spore, the General Manager of Lake Michigan Carferry, says that she and her team are “thrilled to welcome our passengers back more than a month earlier than originally anticipated. It’s a testament to the dedication of our staff here and the hard work of local vendors to make sure we are ready to go.”
Manitowoc Director of Tourism Courtney Hansen has revealed that on Friday, May 17th, there will be a welcome-back celebration at the Badger Dock, located at 900 South Lakeview Drive.
As is tradition, there will be special guests n hand, along with entertainment including several alpacas from LondonDairy Alpacas, and free S.S. Badger cups will be available, while supplies last.
The Badger is scheduled to come to port in Manitowoc at around noon, but guests are encouraged to arrive early as parking is limited.
