$300 bail has been posted for an 18-year-old Manitowoc man accused of trying to steal a vehicle on the city’s southside Sunday evening.
Official charges filed against Fabian A. Adams are Operating a Vehicle Without the Owner’s Consent, Entry into a Locked Vehicle, Criminal Damage to Property, Resisting an Officer, and Disorderly Conduct.
Officers responded to a call for the attempted theft in progress. Adams fled the scene before officers arrived, only to be located a short time and distance away from the original crime scene.
Tasers were drawn, and Adams hit the ground. A search of his phone revealed messages with contacts to Milwaukee that instructed him how to specifically steal a Kia and drive it to Milwaukee.
He allegedly was trying to start the car with a “screwdriver” when police arrived. Adams was taken and booked into the County Jail without further incident. No one was hurt.
The lone condition of bail is that Adams has “no contact” with the victim and/or their residence. His initial appearance is scheduled for May 28th at 1:30.
