It was 13 weeks ago today that Elijah Vue was reported missing in Two Rivers.
Police Captain Andrew Raatz says police never expected that the investigation and search for the 3-year-old would be going this long.
Although crime tips through the state tips line and Crimestoppers are down, they’ve gotten 2,000 tips so far.
“All different types come in and we look into them all,” he explained. “Unfortunately, none have led to finding Elijah at this point. But we follow all those tips and leads as they come in. We still get them in regularly, usually about 6 a day for sure.”
Raatz says tips come from all over the world, but most still come from around Wisconsin.
He says the search and investigation continue, even though there have been fewer searches.
But he reminds residents that the searches can take a lot of time to do.
“They take a lot of resources and a lot of organization to get those things to happen and we don’t want to just search an area and use a lot of resources in an area just to check a box, we want to have some sort of indicator that this might be a spot,” Hhe described.
But with spring in full swing and summer on the way, Captain Raatz reminds anyone doing anything outdoors to pay attention.
“Keep your eyes open and if something suspicious comes up, please let us know and we can look into it,” he stated. “Our goal is to find Elijah and bring some closure to this.”
Elijah was last seen at the apartment of 39-year-old Jesse Vang, who said he fell asleep while watching the 3-year-old, and when he woke up, Elijah was gone.
Court documents show that Elijah’s mother Katrina Baur dropped off Elijah with Vang in Fond du Lac so Vang would show Elijah how to be a man.
Both have been charged with child neglect and have court dates coming up.
