The Valders Vikings and New Holstein Huskies have been rained out for two consecutive days.
So, both teams are itching to play a WIAA Girls Softball Division Three Regional Final this (Saturday) morning in New Holstein.
Vikings Head Coach Steve Dietrich admits to Seehafer Sports it’s been mentally draining, telling us,
“The girls and coaching staff are both ready to play. When looking at your phone (on Friday), you knew that it wasn’t going to happen. The diamond was taking on water, and by the time they put on the tarp, it was too late.”
The Huskies and Vikings split a doubleheader on May 6th and shared the EWC title with identical records of 9 and 3.
Dietrich has a total of 11 players on his roster, 7 of which are sophomores. He says they (The Vikings) can’t use that as an excuse anymore.
“You’re not freshmen. Sophomores, juniors, or seniors. You’re a softball player now. They have a good senior pitcher that could be named first-team all-conference. They know us, and we know them. I’m excited for the matchup.”
The Vikings skipper says his team must be mentally and physically sharp to pull it off.
“We can’t give them an extra base or out in an inning. If you do, you are going to pay for it. Both teams are playing well, and I’m looking forward to the matchup.”
The first Pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m.
