The Mishicot Indians are one victory away from returning to Madison.
In what turned out to be their final home game of 2024, the Indians defeated The New Holstein Huskies 6 to 0 in a WIAA Division Three Sectional semifinal girls’ softball game in Mishicot.
The Indians, as they have all year, hopped on their opponent early, scoring five runs in the first two innings and never looking back.
Head Coach Dawn Shimek says she’s privileged to be associated with such a talented and driven group of kids. She tells Seehafer Sports,
“We all have confidence in what we can do. It’s just another day on the field. It’s very businesslike. We have a goal: win the gold at state.
“We’re happy we won the game but constantly looking ahead. We’ve won, check the box and on to the next game.”
The Indians pounded out ten hits, three of which were by senior first baseman Katelyn Callahan, including a solo home run in the sixth inning.
Left Fielder Baily Carico added two hits, and catcher Kasey Brochoudknocked in a pair as Kiran Sanford threw another complete game shutout.
She gave up three hits, walked three, and struck out ten. Senior Natalie Ziebell went the distance and took the loss for the Huskies, who finished the year 18 and 10.
The next game for 28 and 0 Mishicot is at Oconto Thursday afternoon against Peshtigo, a 7 to 6 winner over Wittenberg Birnamwood, to set up a rematch of last year’s sectional final, won by the Indians.
“I think if we just worry about ourselves, control what we do, contain our emotions, and be mentally tough, I think we’ll be fine.”
The first pitch is scheduled for 4:30.
Meanwhile, The Mishicot baseball team defeated Manitowoc Lutheran 3 to 1 in a WIAA Division Three Regional baseball game, also played at Mishicot.
The Indians put up single tallies in the first, third, and fifth innings and rode the right arm of Nolan Sand to victory.
He gave up just a run in six and two-third innings, with Willie Garceau getting the final out to earn the save. Mishicot Head Coach Zach Sand says The Lancers gave them all they could handle.
“We knew we had to play very well today. We’ve seen them twice and split with them. Nolan threw arguably some of his best ball and Willie came in to slam the door.
He’s our glue guy and has come through for us all year.”
Mishicot took 2 of 3 from the Lancers and improved to 16 and 5, while the Lancers finished their season at 13 and 9.
The Indians now host the winner of Brillion and Algoma, who’ll play in Algoma on Wednesday afternoon after being rained out on Tuesday.
“We’ve had the opportunity to play both teams, so we’ll practice today (Wednesday) and review the game plan to prepare for Thursday.”
The first pitch is scheduled for 4:30.
