The Manitowoc County Historical Society is hosting an event on Friday, June 21st, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to offer support and raise awareness for individuals living with dementia.
Known as the “The Longest Day”, this program is endorsed by the Alzheimer’s Association and coincides with the summer solstice, which marks the longest day of the year.
In collaboration with community partners such as Felician Village and the Manitowoc County Aging and Disability Resource Center, the Manitowoc County Historical Society Aims to provide a supportive environment for those affected by dementia, as well as their caregivers and members of the community seeking a welcoming place for leisurely walks and exploration.
During the event, The Manitowoc County Historical Society Museum and Pinecrest Village will extend their operating hours free of charge, although donations for the Historical Society are part of the SPARK! Alliance, a network comprising over 5 cultural organizations nationwide dedicated to engaging individuals with early-to-mid stage memory loss through monthly programs featuring interactive discussions, exhibit visits, historical items, and sensory activities.
The Longest Day Program event is open to all, including families impacted by dementia and other guests, offering a free opportunity after regular hours to explore the museum and village.
Information tables will also be available to provide insights into the SPARK! Program and additional community resources for families affected by dementia.
