Wisconsin’s Senate Majority Leader is praising the work of the state’s dairy producers.
With June being Dairy Month, Senator Devin LeMahieu of Oostburg revealed some impressive statistics.
In his monthly newsletter, the Senator noted that 30 billion gallons of milk and 3.5 billion pounds of cheese are produced in Wisconsin each year, meaning if Wisconsin were a country, it would rank 4th in the world in cheese production.
Additionally, more than a quarter of cheese produced in the United States is produced in Wisconsin, and an estimated 14% of cheese consumed in the United States passes through our part of the state.
The dairy industry contributes billions of dollars to the state’s economic output and supports thousands of jobs across the state.
LeMahieu ended his statement by saying “Please join me in celebrating dairy month and thanking our hardworking dairy farmers and cheesemakers.”
