After the competitive bid process, the Manitowoc Public School District approved an update to all interior light fixtures at Jefferson Elementary.
At Tuesday’s (June 11) school board meeting, a bid to upgrade from fluorescent lights to LEDs this summer was voted on and approved.
In collaboration with the Cooperative Educational Service Agency 10, the MPSD board agreed an upgrade was necessary and ultimately beneficial.
LED lighting is more energy efficient and longer lasting than outdated fluorescents.
The initial out-of-pocket cost is listed as $100,666, with the offsetting incentive of $16,279, making the net fee $84,387.
The simple payback per energy savings is just $14,205.
The approval was only for interior lights, with an exception for failing exterior lights.
