Dane County has allocated nearly $1 million to transform over 300 acres in the Town of Christiana into a nature preserve.
On Friday, the county announced a $900,000 grant to assist the Southern Wisconsin Bird Alliance in purchasing the land for conservation purposes.
The land, which has not been farmed for decades, serves as a habitat for a variety of birds and animals.
The total cost of the land acquisition is over $2 million, funded by a $1.5 million Knowles Nelson Stewardship grant and the $900,000 contribution from Dane County.
