The first part of the Manitowoc County Courthouse project could be moving forward.
County Executive Bob Ziegelbauer re-explained on WOMT’s Be My Guest program that the county got bids for replacing windows around the courthouse and replacing the HVAC system.
“We were estimating this project at $4 million dollars. The bids came in less than $3 million,” he explained. “So, that was a real boom for us.”
That means the county is saving about $1 million under what they were estimating the project to cost.
The project is also being done under a local contractor in Hamann Construction.
Improvements to the dome are not part of this project because of the expected over $20 million cost to improve it.
What was seen earlier this month was patch work being done to stop leaks in the dome.
Ziegelbauer previously wanted to try to get the maintenance and dome project passed as one, but members on the Board of Supervisors have wanted to keep the projects separate.
The first part of the courthouse repair will take place for about the next year and a half.
