The Two Rivers Parks & Recreation Department and the Lester Public Library have teamed up to bring back the StoryWalks program.
StoryWalks are an innovative way to get kids and their families to read a new book while being out in nature and exploring the pathways.
While walking along the Zander Park or Lester Public Library path, the pages from a children’s book are attached to structures at regular intervals.
Some of the places along the path even have different activities that help reinforce the early development of literary skills.
There are two books currently featured.
The book featured along the Lester Public Library path is Find Bear Came Along by Richard T. Morris and at Zander Park, the featured book is The Busy Tree by Jennifer Ward.
The featured children’s books change around every 3 months. A special opportunity to walk the Zander Park path and participate in the StoryWalk will be on July 26th, beginning at 1:30 p.m. and going until 3:30 p.m.
After walking the path and reading the featured StoryWalk book, Find Bear Came Along, there will be a building project for any kids that attend.
They will have the opportunity to create and build their own kid-size fort with cardboard along with some other natural materials that will be provided.
