Former Milwaukee school board member Aisha Carr faces charges of fraud and misconduct.
Prosecutors allege Carr falsely claimed to live in her school board district after her election three years ago.
She is accused of lying about her residence and voting location and continuing to pay rent and utilities at her old home.
Carr, who resigned abruptly last month, is charged with felony misconduct in office and theft by deception, both carrying potential jail time.
