The Two Rivers community seems to want the city to improve Riverside Park.
That was the message from Two Rivers Parks and Recreation Director Mike Mathis during a council work session this week.
He explained how graffiti and lack of care have made the park look unappealing to residents.
Riverside Park has newer playground equipment, however, there’s an old metal skate park and a building that’s been used for meetings but doesn’t have access to the bathrooms because the foundation settled.
Mathis presented a survey given out to residents that showed younger people wanting the city to have a skate park while others think transforming the park into an outdoor extension of the Two Rivers Senior Center would also work.
The Riverside Park Master Plan includes revitalizing the riverfront with access to water activities, removing and improving the plants around the riverfront, renovating and reopening the park restroom while adding a picnic shelter, and expanding the playground equipment.
The plan from the Two Rivers Advisory Recreation Board says the city can apply for grants for the improvements to the park or fundraise to get the money.
The city council could vote on the plan during their next regular meeting this upcoming Monday.
