Although he’s not a delegate, Wisconsin’s Senate Majority Leader is talking about what the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee will bring to Wisconsin.
State Senator Devin LeMahieu, who represents the 9th Senate District, said on WOMT’s Be My Guest Program that the convention is not only a big deal for the Republican Party but a big deal for the Badger State.
“The estimated economic impact is $200 million to the greater Milwaukee region,” he explained.
“I don’t know how much it’s going to be felt up here in Manitowoc, but there are people staying at least as far as Sheboygan County.”
He says there could be an estimated 50,000 people expected to visit Milwaukee during next month’s convention.
While the Wisconsin legislature isn’t directly involved, LeMahieu says several delegates will represent the state in Wisconsin’s biggest city.
He also says money was approved for the RNC.
“We had $10 million for the RNC,” he said.
“The governor (Evers) vetoed it down to $1 million.”
The Republican National Convention runs from July 15th through the 18th.
