A couple of eastern Wisconsin cities will be getting state funding for freight rail improvements.
An announcement from Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers’s office says nearly $5 million was funded through the Freight Railroad Infrastructure Improvement Program (FRIIP) to upgrade agricultural facility equipment, construct new storage at a transload terminal, and install a new industry track.
In Luxemburg, $1.5 million is going to the Rio Creek Feed Mill to help fund the construction of a 1.3-million-bushel grain bin, a support tower, loading equipment, and unloading equipment at its facility.
Construction of the bin will improve rail car loading and unloading efficiency, leading to annual transportation cost savings exceeding $600,000 per year after two years.
The village of Wrightstown is getting about $2.4 million in September 2023 to construct 4,172 feet of industry track in Wrightstown, located in the Fox Valley.
Construction of the track will extend an existing village-owned industry led to Drexel Building Supply and enable Drexel Building Supply to shift lumber shipping to the facility from truck to rail, leading to annual transportation cost savings exceeding $800,000 per year after five years.
In south central Wisconsin, the city of Reedsburg is also getting some of the money for their train terminal.
