For the first time in 36 years, the Ducktona Classic Car and Boat Show has been canceled.
Yesterday morning (July 3rd), Sheboygan Falls Chamber-Main Street and Ducktona Committees made the tough decision to cancel the annual event.
This comes after heavy rain falls over the past two weeks with more forecasted in the three days leading up to Sunday, the original date of the event.
The excess rain has left the host location, River Park, underwater on multiple occasions in the last few days with overflow of the Sheboygan River seeping into the park.
When interviewed before the official decision was made, Tammy Meyer Chamber-Main Street Executive Director, told Seehafer News , “because of all the rain and the park flooding twice, we actually will be determining, tomorrow, whether we proceed or if we make a drastic change to downsize it to some extent.”
With the cancellation, their hopes to still hold the event in a smaller capacity were to no avail.
The conditions of River Park were too dire to reasonably make Ducktona happen.
On a lighter note, the annual Duck Race will still be held on Sunday.
“The duck race, that is a large event,” Meyer explained. “You buy a ticket to adopt a duck and we drop 4,500 ducks into the Sheboygan River. They race down and we pick four winners.”
The top prize for the duck race is $1000.
Tickets are available for purchase from the Chamber office, located at 504 Broadway Street in Sheboygan Falls.
They are $5 each or five tickets for $20.
They will be in the office on Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
