A day for vintage boats returns to Two Rivers this weekend.
The Cool River Classic has been put on by the Antique and Classic Boat Society Glacier Lakes Chapter for the last four years but has only been open to the public for two years.
Event Coordinator Brian Irwin says when he first organized the event, he wanted to show off the area to antique boat owners.
Irwin says after discussions with city leaders and learning there were some restrictions, they found a location to open the event to the public.
“I’ve got to give a shoutout immediately to Becky Hansen at the Parks and Rec Department in Two Rivers,” he stated. “She’s the special events coordinator and has been totally instrumental in being able to allow us to find a location.”
Society members will arrive in Two Rivers and at 10 am Saturday (July 6th) will cruise down the East and West Twin Rivers.
At noon, the public is invited to Paddlers Park to check out the boats for free.
“We’ll have a boat in the water, we’ll have some other boats on trailers,” he explained. “I’m looking and expecting somewhere, and typically in the last few years had between 10 to 14 boats. I’ve put a challenge out to our chapter members to see if we can get 24 out there.”
Boats will be categorized by how many years ago they were built, with many coming from the 1950s through the 1990s.
The Cool River Cruise runs until 4:00 p.m. at Paddlers Park.
