A U.S. Senate candidate says he wants to bring back America to its former glory.
Republican Senate Candidate Eric Hovde made his first stop during his Restore the American Dream RV Tour at Tapped on the Lakeshore in Two Rivers yesterday to a very supportive crowd.
He explained to them that to him, it seems that American citizens have forgotten about what they’ve been given by being able to live in the greatest country in the world.
Hovde continued saying while people in the US have taken a hit, like the middle class, it’s Democrats like Tammy Baldwin and President Biden who made it that way.
Hovde also mentioned that he wants to make sure everyone lives in a safe community, and that’s by changing policy at the border.
“We got to get back to creating safe communities for our citizens,” he stated. “We have to put Americans first. We’ve got to close that southern border.”
Following his last statement about wanting to end the divisiveness in the US, he took questions from the crowd about issues ranging from legislation passed by the Biden Administration, like the Inflation Reduction Act, to where he stands on the 2nd Amendment.
He gave his opinion on the abortion issue, saying it’s been given to the states, and that the federal government isn’t going to figure it out.
“I think it needs to go to a referendum for every voter to vote on it,” he explained. “I believe in the beauty of life, I have two daughters and three grandchildren. But I agree with exceptions early on in a woman’s pregnancy, a right to choose. But there comes a point. I mean, to think that Tammy Baldwin has voted literally to allow an abortion to go all the way up to a point of delivery.”
He also defended his record which has come into question from Sen. Baldwin through ad campaigns that say he isn’t from Wisconsin and that he doesn’t believe the elderly should vote.
“They find wherever they can click and spin it, and that’s what they’re doing,” he said.
He continued saying “you know what the Democrat parties really are experts at? Gaslighting the American public. Whatever they accuse you of doing is what they are doing.”
Hovde’s RV tour will make stops in 28 other counties leading up to the Republican National Convention.
Baldwin has also made stops across Wisconsin, specifically in the Green Bay area, to campaign.
