Alan Stegemann, age 78, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, entered into eternal life unexpectedly on July 6, 2024. Alan was a cherished member of his church and community, known for his warmth, humor, and kindness.
Alan was born on April 18, 1946, in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, son of the late Edgar and Della Stegemann. Alan graduated from Manitowoc Lutheran High School in 1964. Following high school Alan proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1968-69 in the Vietnam War. He married Cindy (Thalman) on June 19, 1971, who blessed them with 4 children. They shared a beautiful life together filled with faith, love and family. Alan spent over 40 years working at his family business, Sentry Foods, where he made lasting connections with his colleagues and customers. Alan lost Cindy in 2003 after a long battle with cancer. He was fortunate to find love again and married Marilyn (Pappathopoulos), with whom he shared 13 happy years.
Alan was a man of unwavering faith, and his involvement with St. John’s Lutheran Church was a significant part of his life. He found solace in the Gospel and enjoyed singing in the church choir. His love of music extended beyond church, as he enjoyed listening to Romy Gosz and attending various local concerts. Alan also never found a song he could not hum or whistle along to.
In his later years, Alan and Marilyn enjoyed spending time at their second home in Sun City, Arizona, where they made many new friends and continued to be active in their church community. They also cherished their time at Jellystone Campground, where they could relax and enjoy the outdoors together. A highlight to Alan and Marilyn’s week was their Saturday morning coffee and donut runs.
Alan is survived by his wife: Marilyn Stegemann; four children: Christine (John) Schnabl, Jeff (Meagan) Stegemann, Elizabeth Stegemann, and Paul (Ali) Stegemann; 5 grandchildren (and 1 on the way): Grace, Ben, and Molly Schnabl, Thomas and Lauren Stegemann. Alan is also survived by Marilyn’s children: Dan (Pang), Nick (Alli), Chris and Mike Pappathopoulos, Susan (Josh) Van Houston along with Marilyn’s 8 grandchildren: Tula Pappathopoulos, Abby, Alex, William and Samantha Pappathopoulos, Nolan, Lyla and Caleb Pappathopoulos.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents: Edgar and Della Stegemann; wife: Cindy Stegemann; two siblings: Glen (Joyce) Stegemann, and Lois (Henry) Freed.
Alan’s legacy is one of faith, love, and community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. May he rest in peace.
