This year’s All-Star high school baseball game between the Door County League and Shoreland League goes to Door County after picking a 5-4 win at Joannes Stadium in Green Bay.
Both teams went three up and three down in the first inning before the bats woke up.
Door County started the second inning with a single and a walk before a double brought in both runners to take the lead 2-0.
By the third, the Shoreland League would score a run after Noah Lindsley of Casco in the bottom of the inning put a runner in scoring position and, after advancing on a ground out, he would score on an error to make the score 2-1.
Door County would score again in the 4th and 5th innings via singles and ground outs to put DLC up 5-1.
Shoreland would respond in the bottom half of the inning with a walk by Brayden Skenadore of Algoma, who then stole second base.
Skenadore would be driven in by a single from August Hecker of Branch to cut into the lead. The sixth inning saw Shoreland mount a comeback.
Wyatt Kruse of Kewaunee drew a walk, Bradey Coons of Manitowoc singled, and both were driven in with a single by Trevor Cornell of Ashwaubenon to cut the lead to one.
Another Manitowoc baseball All-Star, Casey Stanzel, followed with a double, but he was left on base.
Down 5-4, Shoreland had runners on second and third base with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, but a slick play by the DCL shortstop on a weak ground ball ended the rally and the game.
Six Shoreland pitchers, including Jacob Gallagher of Manitowoc, combined to strikeout 12 DCL batters, with seven of those strikeouts coming over the last three innings.
