The Manitowoc Area Visitor and Convention Bureau is hoping a deal can be struck soon with the City of Manitowoc.
The Vice President of the MAVCB, Gary Stolp tells Seehafer News that they want to start using room tax dollars to help the entire county get more visitors, but “Currently, we’re sitting with an extremely large amount of money that is in escrow until we can get the contract worked out with the city of Manitowoc.”
Judge Mark Rohrer ruled in March of last year that the City of Manitowoc must have a contract with the MAVCB, but Mayor Justin Nickels says the case isn’t over yet.
“There’s still a timeline in place for whether or not there’s going to be appeals to the judge’s decision,” he noted
Mayor Nickels went on to say right now, they are using Room Tax dollars they are legally allowed to for the funding Visit Manitowoc, which he noted is an entirely separate entity.
“Tourism is still a huge priority for us,” Nickels said. “We’re doing all our tourism through Visit Manitowoc, just like two rivers, just to explore two rivers. So we’re content. We’re happy.”
Stolp, however, stated “We have all open arms to be able to try and get this done. And hopefully we will end up seeing that help. Being able to advertise the businesses throughout the entire area this way.”
As of now, there is no real timeline for what is next, or when any appeals will be filed by the City of Manitowoc.
