Limited information is available regarding the death of a female inmate at the Chippewa County Jail.
The woman was transported from the jail to the hospital on July 4th, placed on life support days later, and, according to the coroner, passed away on Sunday.
Authorities have not disclosed the woman’s identity, the reason for her incarceration, or the circumstances leading to her hospitalization.
Sheriff Hakes stated that the woman was no longer under his jurisdiction once she was taken to the hospital.
The coroner’s office has scheduled an autopsy in the Twin Cities for later today.
