It’s the situation players dream of.
Bottom of the final inning, game tied, two out, runner in scoring position.
That is the exact situation Trenton Ducat faced for the Manitowoc American Legion 19U squad yesterday, as Post 88 was tied with Ashwaubenon 1-1 at Municipal Field.
Ducat didn’t let the nerves get to him, as he connected for a single, giving Post 88 a walk-off 2-1 win.
The only other scoring for Manitowoc came off the bat of Brady Hadler.
Hits were not a problem for Manitowoc, as Tate Hartlaub had 3 and Brock Peterson had a pair, but getting base runners home proved to be a struggle.
Seth Gibeault had a stellar day on the mound. He allowed just 2 hits in his full-game effort while striking out 5 batters along the way.
Up next for the eldest Manitowoc Legion team is a home game tonight against Fond du Lac before traveling to Plover for a tournament.
That tournament will be a warm-up for the regional round of the postseason, which will begin on July 23rd.
