A legendary UW-Green Bay men’s basketball coach has passed away.
Dave Buss, the founder and first head coach of the UWGB men’s basketball program, left behind a lasting legacy at the school. Buss coached from the program’s first year in 1969 to 1982.
In his time as coach, he had a record of 271-102 in 13 seasons.
This was highlighted by a four-year span where the Phoenix reached three NCAA Division 2 final fours, including back-to-back runner-up finishes in 1978 and 1979.
Buss was also chiefly responsible for bringing the program from NAIA to Division Two, and eventually to Division One level.
The new UW-GB men’s basketball coach and prominent sports media figure, Doug Gottlieb, got to speak with Buss before he passed and sent his condolences to the Buss family.
