A woman was arrested after starting her ex-boyfriend’s clothes on fire.
The Manitowoc Police and Fire Departments were both called to the scene of a fire in the 700 block of North 6th Street just before 8:15 Tuesday evening (July 16th) on a report of a structure fire.
When they arrived, the resident told officers and firefighters that the fire on the second floor of the home was extinguished.
He explained to investigators that his ex-girlfriend had lived with him until June, when the relationship became estranged.
The day before the incident, the man told police he went to Milwaukee to pick up the 32-year-old woman to try to mend the relationship, and she stayed the night.
The next day, the woman became enraged and put his clothes into a pile, ripped up an old Valentine’s Day card, and started it on fire.
She tried to stoke the flames with a fan, but the man entered the room in time to stop the fire from spreading.
While being interviewed, the woman admitted to police that she knew the fire could have burnt the house down and that she started it because she was mad about things the man had done in the past.
The fire caused several thousand dollars worth of damage, and the woman was arrested on charges of Arson of a Dwelling or Building, Criminal Damage to Property, and Disorderly Conduct.
