A Door County man will be spending some time in prison with the conclusion of a child sex case in Michigan.
U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan Mark Totten announced that 60-year-old Todd Stafford of Bailey’s Harbor will be spending 13 years in prison after he was convicted of Coercion and Enticement of a Minor, and two counts of Travel in Interstate Commerce with Intent to Engage in Illicit Sexual Conduct.
Stafford was convicted by a jury after they heard evidence showing that he traveled to Michigan twice with the goal of having sex with a 16-year-old child.
The victim’s father found conversations between the two, and reported it to law enforcement.
Cheyvoryea Gibson, the Special Agent in Charge of the FBI in Michigan, praised those who worked the case, saying, “Today’s sentencing of Mr. Stafford is a direct result of the hard work of the men and women of the FBI Detroit Field Office’s Marquette Resident Agent, the Iron Mountain Police Department, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office.”
