The Wisconsin Sand Sculpting Festival is returning to the Lake Michigan waterfront this weekend.
The event, in its second year, will take place at Red Arrow Park starting today (July 19) and runs until Sunday (July 21).
Festivities kick off at 2:00 p.m. today and 10:00 a.m. the following two days.
In its first year, the event was a massive success, and according to Visit Manitowoc’s Director of Tourism, Courtney Hansen, it is here to stay.
“Oh yes, definitely a yearly tradition!” she said. “I think what makes it so successful is the mix of activities that we have throughout the weekend.”
These activities for attendees include live music, hands-on sculpting lessons, and of course, the semi-pro sculpting competition.
Like last year, there will be a semi-pro and amateur competition, however, Hansen shared more about what’s new this year.
“Last year, we had 10 semi-pro sand sculptors; this year, we have 17,” she revealed. “We are also introducing a doubles competition.”
Hansen also said last year’s event saw more than 8,000 people come to Red Arrow Park for the Sand Sculpting Festival and this year’s turnout is expected to be even higher.
This includes many from out of state coming to enjoy this new yearly event.
Tourism Director Hansen also said, “There is nothing better, as the Tourism Director, than getting to see and hear from visitors from across states that wanted to make this a part of their summer plans.”
