A 33-year-old Town of Gibson man was taken into custody early Monday morning following a pursuit lasting nearly ten minutes and covering fourteen-and-a-half miles through northeast Manitowoc County.
Deputies responded to a complaint at the intersection of West Zander Road and County Highway B in Gibson for a vehicle parked in the wrong lane of travel with the operator asleep behind the wheel.
Open intoxicants were spotted in the vehicle.
He eventually awoke and had, according to deputies, “observable signs of impairment.”
After acknowledging the deputy’s presence, he revved up the vehicle’s motor and drove away.
A pursuit began, but additional deputies successfully deployed tire deflation devices, which slowed down the vehicle and ended the pursuit. No injuries were reported.
Recommended charges include Operating While Intoxicated-Fourth Offense, Flee/Elude Officer, Second Degree Reckless Endangering Safety, Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License, and Open Intoxicants in a Motor Vehicle.
