The project that would connect the Mariners Trail to Manitowoc’s Lincoln Park will start up soon.
Manitowoc City Parks Planner Brock Wetenkamp explains to Seehafer News that installation of the Bayshore Trail will begin next month.
“And then throughout the winter and early spring we’re going to try and get that bridge installed,” Wetenkamp explained.
The bridge Wetenkamp is talking about would connect the parking area off Reed Avenue near the Lincoln Park Zoo to new conservancy land at Lincoln Park across from the Little Manitowoc River.
The trail itself will connect two areas of the city.
“The trail will run along the river and the wetland area up between the condominiums and the Angeles,” he described. “And then it will connect toward the Mariners Trail.”
Wetenkamp explains that the project has been in the works for the last 4 years when the city got grants for the project in 2020.
Issues came about because the project is in a flood zone and requires a lot of permits.
Specifically, the bridge shouldn’t affect the levels of the Little Manitowoc River when it’s installed.
It’s not known how long it will take to finish the project.
