The Green Bay Packers are back in training camp, and with that comes players fighting for roster spots.
This year, the battle for Kicker may be the most tightly contested.
The Packers come into training camp with three Kickers on the team: incumbent Anders Carlson, veteran Greg Joseph, and rookie James Turner.
Joseph and Turner were both signed earlier this offseason to solidify the position by bringing in players to compete with Carlson for the job.
This comes after Carlson missed 13 total kicks last season, including one big one down the stretch in the divisional round of the playoffs against the 49ers.
In a one-on-one interview with Seehafer News, Carlson spoke on how he spent the offseason.
“I really focused this last little break on continuing what I was doing,” he explained. “It’s good to come back and start the right way.”
As for Joseph, last season saw him in a Minnesota Vikings uniform, where he connected on 80% of his kicks and missed only two PATs to Carlson’s six, including playoffs.
Joseph also spoke with Seehafer News in a one-on-one interview, where he spoke about t his mindset after being signed to compete with Carlson.
“To be completely honest, it doesn’t play a role,” he said. “I know what Greg Joseph is capable of, and that’s all I’m focused on.”
It is highly unlikely that more than one of these three kickers will be on the final 53-man roster when the Packers face off against the Philadelphia Eagles in week one.
This means training camp and preseason will be critical in deciding who will be kicking in the green and gold this year.
