The city of Two Rivers will also be using a form of drop box for the upcoming elections.
City Clerk Amanda Baryenbruch tells Seehafer News that there is a drop box inside at the customer service window and one outside City Hall that’s available by drive-up.
Baryenbruch explains that the drop boxes in both areas are safe and secure, “In our customer service office, it is locked and bolted to the countertop.”
She also assumed voters that “Each one of our customer service employees is deputized to administer elections. So, it is under constant surveillance while we are open here at city hall.”
The customer service drive-up window is also locked and bolted to the ground. Plus:
“The person that goes and picks up utility bills, if they’re ballots in there, we’ll bring them in,” Baryenbruch explained. “And he records how many he brought in and what time he emptied it and it’s all in front of city hall in front of all the windows as well.”
Two Rivers is similar to Manitowoc City Hall, which has a drop slot that allows voters to drop absentee ballots into a drop slot.
A ruling from the Wisconsin Supreme Court earlier this month changed a ruling that banned ballot drop boxes to now allow them to be used in elections.
The Wisconsin Elections Commission has since put out guidelines for clerks around the state to use.
The drop boxes have come up as a point of contention during and after the 2020 election.
