Day 4 of Packer training camp is in the books, and once again, the defense was flying around Ray Nitschke Field.
The high-energy performance by the defense was highlighted by the physical play of Kenny Clark up front, and the veteran presence of Xavier McKinney at safety.
We spoke with Eric Stokes, who said McKinney has been a great addition to the secondary.
“Just his experience, his knowledge of the game, and his range,” he cited as McKinney’s high points. “There are some things that you can take away from him.”
While the defense has been the pre-pads winners, Stokes says there is still work to do.
“We played great, but there’s still room for improvement,” he admitted. “I’m just waiting to see how tomorrow will go. Football is not played in shorts and helmets. Tomorrow could be a real test to see how great of a defense we really are.”
Saturday will be the Packers’ first day in pads, which former Packer O-Lineman and Manitowoc Lincon head coach Evan Smith says is a game changer.
“Some guys…once the pads come on, it’s going to start showing,” he explained. “The biggest thing is it’d be for the O-line guys. They’re playing without pads now. You got to kind of now you get to put your weapon on and you get hit back a little bit more.”
There are six more practices on Ray Nitschke Field before the annual Family Night Practice under the lights at Lambeau Field.
