The beautiful shoreline of Lake Michigan is the perfect setting for a weekend of riding to help find a cure for blood cancer.
Over 2,000 cycling enthusiasts, cancer survivors, and supporters will adorn the coast from Mequon to Sturgeon Bay in their mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, and myeloma and improve the quality of life of patients and families.
The ride begins in Mequon at 7:30 Saturday morning and plans to arrive at Red Arrow Park in Manitowoc sometime Saturday night.
There, participants will enjoy refreshments, dinner, music, and an awards ceremony along the lakeside.
A hot breakfast begins Sunday’s festivities, and then riders venture up to Door County for the final 75 miles.
A tailgate festival in Sturgeon Bay will celebrate the riders’ hard work and achievements.
Deluxe coach buses will return the riders from Sturgeon Bay to their original starting location.
Riders as young as 8 years of age can participate in routes of 25,75, and 100 miles, along with the traditional 2-day 150-mile route.
With up to 1,500 riders raising nearly $2 million annually, “Riding the Shore for a Cure” is just one of the premier charity events in the Midwest that plays a “major role” in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s mission to eradicate cancer.
