The Manitowoc County Public Safety Committee is looking to help local residents spot scams, and avoid becoming a victim.
There are four learning sessions scheduled in August and September entitled “Common Scams and Frauds Targeting Seniors” which will take place through the county.
The first two are on Thursday, August 22nd, and will be held in the Manitowoc County Office Complex from 11:00 to noon and in the Kiel Community Center from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m.
Then, on Wednesday, September 25th, Ben Merens, an Outreach Specialist with the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection, will be in the Lester Public Library in Two Rivers from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m., and the Whitelaw Fire Department from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.
The DATCP estimates that Wisconsinites lose more than $40 billion per year to scams, with those over 65 especially vulnerable.
