Wednesday evening (July 31st) was a busy one for Green Bay firefighters.
The Green Bay Metro Fire Department reports that they had crews responding to a possible water rescue on the Leo Frigo Bridge Wednesday evening when a call came in reporting a fire at Proctor and Gamble, located at 501 Eastman Avenue.
Crews were met by the company’s emergency response team, who pointed them to the air handling system for their paper machines.
The fire ended up making its way through the vent system and erupted through the vent on the roof, creating what was described as a “fireball.”
Another fire was then found in the wall above the electrical room, which caused a delay while waiting for power to be isolated.
The fires were both eventually extinguished with no injuries reported.
Due to the excessive heat in the building and outside, teams were rotated in and out of service to ensure they were properly hydrated and cooled.
