Local governments across Wisconsin have received their first payments from the state’s shared revenue plan, totaling one billion dollars.
Governor Tony Evers’ office announced the distribution yesterday. In total, cities, towns, and counties will receive over 1.5 billion dollars.
This revenue-sharing agreement, reached last year between lawmakers and the governor, aims to provide local governments with additional funding for services such as police, fire, and EMS.
The deal also permitted Milwaukee and Milwaukee County to increase their sales taxes, though Milwaukee County reports that the revenue from these taxes has fallen short of expectations.
