A Manitowoc man was named the recipient of a prestigious award at EAA AirVenture.
NBC26 reports that Randy Rettler earned the bronze Lindy Award this year, an award aimed at acknowledging the best-handcrafted aircraft.
There are six categories of Lindy Awards, named after aviation hero Charles Lindbergh.
They are Vintage Aircraft, Warbirds, Ultralights/Light-Sport Aircraft, Rotorcraft, Seaplanes, and Homebuilt Aircraft, which is the category in which Rettler earned third.
He built his plane named Charlie in his garage and has taken it on trips to 49 states and the Caribbean.
