The annual Newton Volunteers Firefighters Picnic is returning for a 77th year.
Jay Boldt and Lee Glaser were on the WCUB Breakfast Club recently, explaining that the weekend kicks off Friday (August 16th) at 5:00 pm.
Fish plates will be available throughout the entire weekend and several activities are planned for Friday evening.
“Truck and Tractor pulls, they start at 7:00,” Bodlt explained. “The volleyball, they start at 6:00 already. The band will start at 8:30.
Smoke Road will be the first band of the night for the firefighter’s picnic.
Friday also includes the NEW and P. I. Modified Truck and Trailor Pulls at 7:00 p.m.
One activity that goes on all weekend is the volleyball tournament.
“It starts Friday night,” Glaser says. “Co-eds, we have co-eds sixes and co-ed fours Friday night. Then Saturday during the day we have four man four women (volleyball teams) running all day. Then Saturday night is back to co-eds. And then Sunday is the playoffs for all the classes.”
Other events for Saturday include the large consignment auction and another truck and trailer pull.
The picnic ends with a parade at 11:30 am on Sunday.
The picnic takes place at Newton Community Park at 6103 Newton Road, south of Manitowoc.
