The line was busy yesterday morning (August 16th) for Cops on a Rooftop.
Manitowoc and 26 other police units around the state participated in the annual event to raise money for the Special Olympics.
Manitowoc County Sheriff’s deputies and some Wisconsin State Patrol members also showed up at Dunkin Donuts on Calumet Avenue.
Special Olympic Athlete and Coach Travis Stuckart told SeehaferNews that he’s been a part of Manitowoc County Miracles Special Olympics for 36 years and has competed locally and worldwide.
He called Cops on a Rooftop amazing, all showing their support.
“It’s a great atmosphere,” he stated.
“Law enforcement has been great to us here and it’s a perspective on what they do for the communities also.”
Stuckart also says the money raised stays in Wisconsin.
“Here in Manitowoc, we don’t have to pay a single penny for our events,” he said.
“Everything’s paid by the state or the local program here in the Manitowoc County Special Olympics.”
Stuckart himself has a rare condition called PKU, but it doesn’t stop him from winning medals around the world.
He showed off three medals with two that he earned at the North American Softball Tournament in 2023 and 2016.
But there was one that was very special.
“And this one’s a cool one,” he exclaimed as he showed it off.
“This is my silver medal at the World Games in Ireland, where I ran a half marathon and took second place out of 48 runners.”
He called the games in Ireland one of the most memorable but meeting his wife in Panama City, Panama was another memory he’ll never forget.
Cops on a Rooftop also occurred in Sheboygan and Green Bay yesterday morning.
