ReadyWisconsin is encouraging parents to add safety to their back-to-school planning.
The state safety group suggests that parents create an emergency communications plan, which lists the phone numbers of parents, along with the names of members of a student’s extended family or close friends, to serve as backup contacts.
Ensure a copy of that plan is available at school and in your student’s backpack.
Also, as buses begin transporting students to and from school, drivers are reminded to stop at least 20 feet away from a bus when red warning lights are flashing and to slow down when amber lights are flashing.
When school crossing guards are in place, motorists should obey all directions they give as well.
