Both congressional candidates for the Wisconsin 6th Congressional District continue to make their pitch to voters.
John Zarbano, a Democrat from Oshkosh, is running against Incumbent Republican Glenn Grothman of Glenbeulah.
In a recent episode of WOMT’s Just the Facts, Grothman discusses his take on issues with John Foster. Grothman continued his strong stance against what he calls an “open border,” saying that to him, there’s never been a president like President Biden who doesn’t care for the border.
He says that while some people are coming in illegally, many are coming in legally, and this is causing a change in the US.
“And if we don’t try to put the brakes on that, I think America is permanently going to become very different,” he stated. “And when you got some many people from different countries who haven’t been educated in our American Constitution and don’t share our values, America is going to become more like the countries where people are coming here from. America will be a lot more like Brazil, a lot more like Guatemala.”
Zarbano says it’s time to stop talking and start doing something about the border. He then talked about the bipartisan border bill created by three US Senators, which failed to pass the Senate, with mostly Republicans and six Democrats voting it down.
According to Zarbano, the bill would have ended catch and release, increased border agent hirings, and added strict asylum screenings.
“I would start by doing by reviving that Senate compromise bill in the House and get it on the floor for debate,” he explained. “Grothman was told to talk about the southern border and blame Biden. I believe in solving problems and not talking about them.”
Both candidates also discussed inflation and its effect on families in the US. Zarbano says the economy is strong right now, and inflation is back to more normal levels, but prices are high on things like groceries.
To address this, Zarbano said he plans on “Making sure that there’s enough competition in the food industry to help the farmers because we have over 1 million acres of farmland in the 6th Congressional District.”
Grothman says inflation is high because of bills passed under the Biden Administration.
“You cannot be passing trillion-dollar bills largely funded by printing money by the federal reserve without inflation,” he described. “So, we can’t do any more of these what we call supplemental bills. And we have to have our regular budget bills say even drop one or two percentage points and then slowly we’ll get inflation under control.”
Another topic each candidate spoke about included fossil fuels, the upcoming presidential election, and the US Military.
