Big Brothers Big Sisters Wisconsin Shoreline held their second annual Back to School Bash to get kids ready to start the school year.
On Monday (August 19th) the Back to School Bash, held at the Farm Wisconsin Discovery Center, supplied children with free standard school supplies such as backpacks, notebooks, folders and more.
Along with handing out school supplies were various community organizations offering resources to students, parents, and Bigs.
Becky Wilhelm, the Engagement Specialist for Big Brothers Big Sisters Wisconsin Shoreline, said the first Back to School Bash was an overwhelming success.
As for this year’s event, she explained they were looking to build a “sense of community and (show) the kids and the families how much our community supports them. Just showing them how much they are genuinely cared for by the community.”
One major partner of the event was Land O’Lakes, who supplied students with backpacks that were made in their very own facilities.
Lindsey Casper of Land O’Lakes was there handing out the backpacks knowing the importance of what they were doing.
“There are some families who are in need of school supplies in general, so we want to give to the families that aren’t able to get that,” she explained. “We want to make sure that they can go to school and feel provided for.”
As of yesterday, Wilhelm said that there was over 200 people signed up to participate in the Back to School Bash as the school year is just around the corner.
