With the start of the 2024 Manitowoc County Fair comes reminders to be safe from Manitowoc County Emergency Management.
Director Rhonda Green spoke on the WCUB Breakfast Club about some tips to follow as you go to the fair.
While the weather looks a little cooler for the first few days, temperatures will be going up as it gets to Saturday and Sunday.
One of the most important things Green says to remember, even though it’s said all the time, is to stay hydrated.
“Your sodas your energy drinks, they do not hydrate you. Drink plenty of water,” she said. “Those sports drinks with electrolytes, those are very beneficial.”
She says it’s also important not to overindulge in fried food because that can also dehydrate you as well.
Green also reminds residents to keep their hands clean before eating if someone pets an animal or plays one of the games where germs can spread.
For families at the fair with young kids, Green reminds parents to keep track of their kids because they can wander off at any time.
If you have older children, remind them about good places to meet if they get lost.
“Try to stay put,” Green states. “Because mom’s going to know the last place she saw you, she’s going to come look for you. But if you’re getting jostled around or if you’re scared, (kids should) look for a police officer.”
You can also walk to the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s station area behind the Manitowoc County Ice Center, and they might be able to help you.
Some other steps to take to make sure you enjoy the fair are to wear closed-toed shoes and always follow the rules on any rides you get on.
The Manitowoc County Fair goes on until Sunday, August 25th.
