The Lakeshore Technical College President, Dr. Paul Carlsen, has been named as the co-chair of the Small and Rural Colleges Commission.
The commission is part of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC), and Dr. Carlsen will serve as co-chair for the 2024-25 term.
The AACC is a national advocacy organization that represents more than 1,000 two-year community colleges in the U.S. that serve nearly 2 million students across the country.
The commission highlights innovative practices these schools participate in as well as offering advice and guidance on certain issues that impact these small and rural colleges.
On his appointment as co-chair, Dr Carlsen said, “I look forward to working with leaders from similar colleges across the country to find shared efficiencies and common policy objectives that will support student success in our communities.”
Dr. Carlsen joined Lakeshore Technical College in 2017 and has played a large role in the school becoming nationally recognized as one of the top two-year colleges in the country.
