Two city of Manitowoc residents were honored for their heroic actions.
Durning Monday’s common council meeting, Police Chief Nick Reimer gave two Citizen Life Saving Awards to Gregory and Thomas Augustine.
The two were riding their bikes near Red Arrow Beach back in June when they thought they heard someone yelling.
They then suddenly noticed two girls had been pulled into a riptide in Lake Michigan.
They both leaped into action to rescue the girls while calling 911.
One emergency personnel showed up, both girls had been rescued from Lake Michigan and besides swallowing a little water were okay.
Reimer explained that this was the first time in his tenure as chief that he’s given out the Life Saving Awards to two people in the community.
After getting their awards, both Gregory and Thomas Augustine simply said thank you to everyone at the meeting.
