The Valders Area School District is turning to the voters for help.
Kristin DeTroye, the newly named Superintendent of the District, supplied Seehafer News with a document outlining the $1.5 million operational referendum, which will be on the November ballot.
The main focus of the outline is a focus on the students and giving them the tools to be successful.
Based on the current layout for state payments, the Valders Area School District receives $11,000 per pupil, which is the lowest possible amount in Wisconsin.
This has led to the District projecting a $750,000 shortfall in the budget, which they will have to cover with their fund balance.
Without the four-year operational referendum, DeTroye tells Seehafer News, “There are going to be some tough decisions that will need to be made in areas such as special programming, staffing, and athletics.”
She also noted in an email, “We want it made very clear that this referendum is about our kids and being able to continue to educate them in a way where they are ready for their future.”
