The University of Wisconsin (UW) Regents have endorsed a plan to request an additional $855 million in funding for the university over the next two years.
The Regents approved President Jay Rothman’s budget proposal Thursday.
Rothman emphasized that the funds are needed to provide an eight percent raise for employees over the next two years.
Additionally, part of the money would be allocated to cover tuition costs for students from families earning less than $55,000 annually.
While Republican lawmakers have expressed some willingness to provide the university with a portion of the requested funds, they insist that reforms and budget cuts must accompany any financial support.
