An alert neighbor might have helped stop what could have been a major house fire in Kaukauna last Saturday (August 24th).
The Kaukauna Fire Department was called to the 900 block of Taft Street, where a single-family residence was reported to have smoke and flames coming from inside.
Firefighters found the smoke and flames coming from a bedroom window on the back of the house with flames extending toward the roof.
Crews knocked down the fire in the bedroom quickly and entered the house to fully extinguish the rest of the fire within 15 minutes.
The home sustained significant smoke damage throughout the first floor as well as in the bedroom and hallway, with damage estimated to be about $80.000.
No one was hurt. However, one person who lives at the home was displaced.
The person wasn’t home at the time of the fire.
The cause is still undetermined.
The Kaukauna Fire Department also reminded everyone to have working smoke detectors in their homes and reminded them to check them monthly.
