The man charged with killing his parents in Winnebago County will be sentenced in October.
Court records show that 27-year-old Erik Metzig will have a sentencing hearing after withdrawing his not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity plea in the shooting of Jan and Dave Metzig in March of 2023.
According to NBC26, a criminal complaint showed that police were called to a Wolf River home and found Jan and Dave in the bedroom, covered in blankets, with apparent gunshot wounds to their heads.
Erik was later arrested at the Kimberly YMCA, where red smears were found in his car.
The complaint didn’t mention a motive, but a journal written by Erik apparently detailed that he wanted to “eliminate” his parents to make it look like they went missing while out for a walk.
He’ll return to a Winnebago County courtroom on October 30th at 1:00 pm.
