Rates for people who need an ambulance in Two Rivers could increase.
During their monthly work session, the council heard about rate increases for when they are called to an emergency.
Two Rivers Assistant Fire Chief Ryan Menges explained that the rates haven’t increased in about three years and that their private billing company recommended the increases.
The biggest increase in billing would come from specialty care transport, with a $400 increase from $1,600 to $2,000 for residents and a $500 increase from $1,800 to $2,300 for non-residents.
Other increases, on average, are either $100 or $200 more depending on patients’ needs and whether they refuse to be taken to a hospital.
Council members asked questions about what happens when a patient is transferred to a different hospital outside of the area and how many patients are on Medicare and Medicaid when taken by ambulance.
A couple also expressed concerns about how everyday residents will supplement Medicare with the increases.
The issue will be discussed before the council’s September meeting.
